More than 3/4 of the veteran population have additional, non-VA forms of insurance. This dual care allows for the possibility of fragmented care, which can be especially significant when it comes to prescription opioids. This grant is especially timely as health care and prescription benefits are likely to increase over time with the expansion of Medicaid and private insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
