Retaining Participants in Longitudinal Studies of Alzheimer’s Disease

Project Period: 08/01/2017 - 07/31/2019 PI: Jennifer Lingler, PhD, MA, CRNP
Funding Source: National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center, Collaborative Project
Researchers: Co-PI: Susan Stark, PhD, Washington University St. Louis, Melissa Knox, Lisa Tamres
This three site study, Washington University, St. Louis, University of Pittsburgh and University of Wisconsin, will identify known and novel facilitators and barriers to longitudinal Alzheimer's Disease (AD) research participation. The study will involve comprehensive surveys of enrolled and recently dropped out research participants age 45 and older and use the findings to develop and pilot a set of research guidelines to increase retention. The study could provide important evidence to the National Institute on Aging and the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center so that they may make informed recommendations to AD Research Centers on the optimal protocols for retaining participants in longitudinal studies of AD.
